When do i need to report for registration ?

Secondary 1 Students are required to report to their posted schools on Thursday, 20 December 2018 at 8.30am for their Secondary 1 registration.

Where do i go to for registration ?

Registration at Nan Chiau High School commences at 8.00AM.
If you are entering from the Main Gate, Please proceed to the Conference room for registration
If you are entering from the Side Gate, Please proceed to the Library for registration
Look out for directional signage to guide you through registration, for assistance please consult any student Councillors

What are the documents required for registration ?

– Child EZ Link Card / Birth Certificate
– Child Report Book

What is the attire for students ?

– Primary School Uniform

What should I do if I am unable to attend the secondary 1 registration ?

Please notify the school via email ( nchs@moe.edu.sg), kindly indicate the reason & your child particulars

Where can i find the slides presented during the Secondary 1 Registration Talk ?

The slides will be made available here on the Parents Portal after 3pm on 20th December 2018.

Do you have any affiliation with Singapore Hokkien Huay Kuan Primary School ?

No

Will I get priority admission into the school if I'm from an SHHK school, Alumni Etc ?

Admission to Nan Chiau High School is strictly based on Merit

What is the criteria to Appeal to Nan Chiau High ?

School admissions are based on merit in the Secondary 1 Posting Exercise. Posting decisions are based on objective and transparent measures of academic merit i.e. PSLE scores.

Appeals that take place after the S1 Posting Exercise must be aligned to these principles, in order to be fair to other admitted students.

All students appealing into Nan Chiau High School must also have sat for the Chinese Language or Higher Chinese Language paper during their PSLE Examinations.

Primary 6 students who have applied to Nan Chiau High School during MOE’s Secondary 1 Posting Exercise but are unsuccessful, may appeal to be considered for transfer to Nan Chiau High School.

These students appealing for admission to NCHS after the release of the Secondary 1 Posting result have to meet the school’s cut-off point.

Students who do not meet the cut-off point would not be eligible to appeal for admissions. 

How do i submit an Appeal to Nan Chiau High ?

Application is to be done strictly via the online application form (application opens after the release of Secondary 1 Posting Result in December) and will close on 26th December 2018 @ 2359

For your convenience, it is not necessary to submit any hard-copy appeal form personally.

Academic Matters

When will the school timetable be released ?

The timetable for the first 2 weeks of school will be published on our school website no later than 31st December 2018. Please visit https://nchs.edu.sg then. (If you have provided your email during the Secondary 1 Registration, you would also receive an email notification.)

Important Note : Students need not follow the school time table from 2nd January – 4th January , they will instead follow the Secondary 1 Orientation Camp Time Table

When will I get to know the class assigned to my child ?

The final & confirmed class placement will be published on our school website no later than 31st December 2018. Please visit https://nchs.edu.sg then. (If you have provided your email during the Secondary 1 Registration, you would also receive an email notification.)

Higher Chinese FAQs

If he/she did not receive the eligibility letter, can they still opt to take Higher Chinese ?

More information on this would be announced during the S1 Registration Talk

How do I know if my child is eligible to take on Higher Chinese ?

Primary 6 (P6) students, who are eligible will be issued the Eligibility Letter, which is enclosed in the S1 Option Form.

Objectives of the S1 Orientation Camp

  • To facilitate the smooth transition of students into Secondary School life.
  • To familiarize students with the culture and learning environment of the school.
  • To foster new friendships within their cohort.

Advisory on Personal Safety / Medication / Electronic Devices

  • Prepare Personal Medications (any medicine, ointment etc)
  • Label your medication pack properly.
  • Students are not allowed to share medications
  • Students may start to take vitamin C tablets to boast your immunity(optional)
  • Avoid bringing any electronic devices for the Day Camp.
  • Day Camp: Students will adhere to school rules, no usage of electronic devices during school hours.
  • Students are Encouraged to bring along your mobile device for the 2D1N Residential Camp.
  • SH ICT Mr Lee HL will be sharing with the students on some of the mobile applications they can use to aid in their studies.
  • It’s ok if students do not have mobile data as they will be able to connect to the school network
  • After the session, all mobile devices will be kept by the teachers at the start of the camp, and will only be returned to them at the end of the camp.
  • Do not bring sharp or offensive objects.
  • Do not bring food (titbits).
  • Do not bring more than $15 dollars for the 2D1N camp.

General Information on Parents Night

  • All parents are encouraged to join us on parents’ night
  • Please be seated by 515pm, as the programme will commence promptly at 520pm.
  • Would encourage all to have a light meal before heading down, as we will not be providing any refreshments.
  • The whole programme is planned to end around 730pm, so that you can have dinner with your child.

Financial Assistance / Medical Matters Etc

My child is a special needs students / has pre-existing medical conditions (severe asthma, etc) how do i inform the school of this ?

Please indicate this information in the Secondary 1 Registration forms which you will need to complete, our office would then inform the respective personnel on your child medical condition. Rest assured all information provided will be kept strictly confidential

We require financial assistance, do you offer such schemes ?

Yes, we do offer the MOE Financial Assistance Scheme, A student is eligible for MOE FAS if he or she meets either of the following criteria: Gross Household Income (GHI) not exceeding $2,750 per month OR Per Capita Income (PCI) not exceeding $690 per month. Appeal To Transfer Out

I am appealing to transfer out of Nan Chiau to another school, do I still need to attend the Secondary 1 Registration ?

Yes, you are still required to attend the S1 Registration, You will still need to secure a seat for your child in our school in cases if the appeal is unsuccessful.

Since I’m appealing, do I need to purchase uniform & books first ?

We leave this decision to you, You can choose to delay the purchase of the Books / Uniform while awaiting the appeal outcome?

Im still waiting for the appeal results, and the New School Term is about to begin, what should my child wear to school ?

For the first 2 days of school, students can still wear their old school uniform to NCHS, after which they would have to purchase the Books / Uniforms.

Locker Rental

Are there lockers for my child in the school campus ?

There are Lockers which are available for students to rent.

What are the locker rental charges ?

Lockers can be rented at a cost of $25 per academic year. This includes the cost of a Padlock.

How do i go about applying for the locker ?

Students who are interested in applying for a locker , would need to complete the “Prosposec Surfaces Pte Ltd Locker Rental Application Form ” which can be obtained at the General Office or by click here. 

Completed forms must be submitted to the vendor who will be station outside the Alumni Room on :

    • Saturday 22nd December 2018
    • 1st Week of January 2019 (9AM to 12 Noon)

 

Payment must be via cash / cheque payable to “Prospec Surfaces Pte Ltd”

If i need an additional lock , how much would it cost ?

Additional locks can be purchased at a price of $5

How much should I bring for the purchase of school books ?

We recommend that you bring $300 – $400 for the purchase of books

Our school bookshop accepts CASH, NETS, NTUC Back to School Voucher, CDAC Voucher , Popular Gift Vouchers , Home Team & SAFRA Vouchers

Does the school bookshop offer Home Delivery Service ?

Yes, they do provide such services, please call them at 65147102 directly for assistance on such requests.

Can the school books be purchased outside ?

Yes, The school books be purchased from outside bookstores, but items such as exercise books etc Have to be purchased from the school bookshop

How much should I bring for the purchase of school uniforms ?

We recommend that you bring $200 for the purchase of uniforms

Does the school uniform vendor accept other payment modes ?

Our uniform vendor only accepts CASH Payment mode.
